60 Sutton Place

New York City

The spacious lobby of 60 Sutton was denied by the entry vestibule. This unfortunate space housed the concierge-doorman station, and an electrical closet in 90 square feet, a veritable stopper, congested and mean. In addition, the existing low entrance canopy was supported on posts, which were regularly hit by delivery trucks. We removed the vestibule and designed a new concierge station to the north, allowing the Icarus Fountain that is on axis with the entry to maintain prominence. We matched the existing finishes, restored those that remained, and provided a new AC system, storefront and cantilevered bronze canopy, which pierces through to the new plaza entry, its stone pavers an extension of the Lobby, all combined to create an understated elegant entry.
